Product Description

For consumers seeking a 40 inch flat screen TV, a superlative investment can be identified in the Samsung LN40A650 manufactured by Samsung. The Samsung LN40A650 is a perfect television for viewing a variety of angles since Samsung has been innovative about the television’s construction; the housing of the Samsung LN40A650 has been constructed in such a way that the viewer gets a 178° x 178° viewing angle from four different axes. The latter feature means that the viewer can watch the television straight on with ease and still see images with the same clarity when watching the Samsung LN40A650 from an angle.

Outfitted with several tuners, the Samsung LN40A650 picks up all incoming signals and interprets them with precision and unmatched clarity. Images are crisp, clean, and sharp, and consumers will be hard-pressed to find other televisions to offer such realism. Of course, like other Samsung models, the Samsung LN40A650 offers extreme connectivity allowing the consumer to connect personal computers and other digital devices via the numerous inputs housed within the television’s cabinetry.

For the complete elimination of issues related to shadowing, blurring, and/or ghosting Samsung has incorporated their Auto Motion Plus™ technologies into the LN40A650 as well.

The housing of the LN40A650 is super attractive thanks to the inclusion of Touch Of Color™ technologies which give the shiny black case a hint of color and further adds to the attractiveness of the LCD TV’s housing. The most subtle hint of rose color is added to the bezel around the LN40A650 and this feature has eliminated the need to utilize other types of veneers on the LCD TV’s housing.

Image presentation is augmented by superior sound quality in the LN40A650 and Samsung has incorporated SRS TruSurround XT™ features. The latter features deliver an illusion of surround sound through two hidden speakers conveniently embedded in the set’s cabinetry. This set is wall mountable but it also comes with an accompanying swivel stand so that it can be set up on an entertainment center or anywhere that the consumer desires.

No Video Only Audio after 26 months of light usage

Yes, I bought this TV from BestBuy in May 2008. After 2 years and 2 months, a few days ago, the first problem occurred. As I switch on the TV, the screen/video is completely black and only the audio is audible. Iam able to change the channels and also increase the volume, but the video does not appear. the Screen is completely blank. Iam out of warranty now. I have just contacted Samsung service and checking the parts for LN40A650 in [...], the PCB costs around 200$.
I am confused and wondering why i purchased a LCD TV..
The technology is not mature at all.
Remember the days when i used to have my CRT for 15 years.
Good TV but hidden issues.

I got this TV Aug 2008. Within a couple of months, the red frame change shape and had to call in customer service to repair it. They had to replace the frame which changed shape due to overheating of the tv. Again now Mar 2010, I see that there are capacitor problems. My TV is dead now because of a power supply problem and got an estimate of $300 to repair it. This issue is not related to the capacitor problem but another issue altogether. I have a surge protector, but the power supply just died. The TV is awesome otherwise with respect to quality, picture and looks. But there are certain defects that you tend to see after the warranty expires.
Great tv, but volume on bezel is problematic

Reviewer: Jon Hellman,
We have owned the TV for over a year now and throughly enjoy this TV. That said, there are two issues, one moderate to major and one minor that may prove problematic at a later date.

The TV has the volume control as a touch panel on the right hand side. We use this frequently. The panel is not actual buttons, but some type of touch sensor. The last month the volume control has begun to act up. While watching, the volume will go begin climbing to max volume. Typically, the TV gives a warning that this is about to happen because it will move one or two steps (e.g. From 15 to 16). Then less than a minute later it starts moving all the way to 100.

This is not a remote issue as we have been able to duplicate with all remotes with the batteries removed.

We have had moderate success cleaning the side panel to remove all smudges on the glass. But given a couple weeks, it begins to act up again. Since it worked fine for over a year I am concerned it is not a cleaning issue, but a sensor that is failing.

The non-issue is the remote. It works fine, but has begun to rattle. Something has broken loose in the remote. No problems yet and may last many years more.

I try a firmware update and a good cleaning. If problem persists Samsung will hear from me.
